Although still controversial, scientific research and empirical observation has shown that many animals indeed do have the capacity for love, fear, sorrow, guilt, anger, shame, disgust, empathy and even humor. The internet thrives on videos of pets that seem to be laughing or producing sounds similar to human laughter.

Every year, the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awardsselects from thousands of entriesfrom around the world the best images of animals in the act of “LOL, ” sporting silly grins or making surprised faces. They may be caught in comic, compromising situations or simply living their “daily” lives when a human photographer is on hand at the right place, at the right time, to capture a humorous moment.
For 2020, the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards is launching a revamped version of the competition, which is free to enter at www.comedywildlifephoto.com“for a chance to win some amazing prizes and be crowned the Comedy Wildlife Photographer of the Year, ” as the organizers announce.

The intent of the competition is not just to make us smile at the amusing images but alsoto promote conservation of wildlife and their habitat, to try to ensure that the animals that live on the planet today are still here for the next generations. Co-founded by professional photographers Paul Joynson-Hicks and Tom Sullam, the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards works in partnership with theBorn Free Foundation, an international NGO specializing in the protection of wild animals.
Professional and amateur photographers are eligible for the competition, which is open for entries until May 31. Funny Animal Photos In Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards
Created by professional photographers Paul Joynson-Hicks and Tom Sullam, the event celebrates pets' positive and vital role in our lives and encourages engagement around animal welfare. This year, Comedy Pets is donating a huge £35, 000 to animal welfare charities, £10, 000 each to three separate causes that care for and re-home abandoned animals, including Dean Farm Trust, London Inner City Kitties and Wild at Heart Foundation. Another £5, 000 will be given to the overall winner to donate to a charity of their choice.
The 30 shortlisted images and videos were chosen from hundreds of entries submitted to the competition from nearly 70 countries. The esteemed judges now have the enviable task of sifting through these top entries to pick their favourites to win. Amongst the jury members is the TV presenter and author Mel Giedroyc, who says: This is my first foray into the world of Comedy Pet judging, and I can't think of anything better than sitting down with a cup of tea and having a giggle at the brilliant entries in this year's competition, knowing that they have helped support some incredible animal charities.
You can get involved too because, for the first time, we get to be a judge and vote for our favourite finalist image in the Animal Friends People's Choice Award. Voting is open now on the website.
