You can collect the star fragments the next day. They'll wash up on beaches across your island. If you happened to wish a lot, keep checking your beach as they'll keep washing up. It's unclear what exactly forces the different kind of star fragment drops, but once we know, we'll make sure it's on this page.
The zodiac star fragments you'll most likely get are based on the zodiac s currently in the sun. For instance, in April, you'll likely get an Aries Fragment. Other zodiac star fragments can drop even when a different s is in the sun, but those drops seem to be rarer.

There is another way to get Star Fragments and Zodiac Fragments any time of the year, but it's only possible randomly on an island from Kapp'n Boat Tours. The Star Fragment Island is one of the special islands you can discover during Kapp'n Boat Tours. Regardless of the time of year, or time of day, this is a nighttime island in the middle of a meteor shower. While walking across the beach, you can find star fragments scattered across the shore and even a message bottle containing a space-themed DIY Recipe.
Be sure to bring a shovel and pummel the rocks on the island to find even more star fragments! Be sure to walk around your island's beach the next day to find Star Fragments from the shooting stars you wished upon!
If you're not seeing stars fall or if you haven't gotten a meteor shower, you might want to consider finding someone online hosting a meteor shower event. Online communities on Discord, Reddit, and other places have groups just for this. You can also use tools like the turnip exchange to find people with open islands who have Celeste.

If you don't want to go online, you can still do some things to try to and find those coveted falling stars.
If you're wondering what to do with star fragments in Animal Crossing, know that you'll eventually want to use them for crafting. If you've come across a lot in your time playing, it's best to hoard them!
Star fragments are rare (though not quite as rare as gold ore), so be sure to keep them in a safe spot for crafting.
