Animal Crossing Flea Market Tips
This article is about the event in Wild World and City Folk. For the feature of Re-Tail in New Leaf, see Re-Tail § Flea market.
The Flea Market is an event in Animal Crossing: Wild World and Animal Crossing: City Folk where villagers from the player's town allow others to come in and buy some of their items, although some of their furniture isn't for sale for various reasons. Many animals choose to sell items at a raised amount.
The player can also sell their own belongings — any furniture out on the ground floor when villagers visit is up for sale. Even if the player runs out of items to sell, the villager will take a few minutes to leave unless the player leaves, in which case the villager will leave as well. If the player leaves and re-enters the house enough, every villager will visit once. Items or creatures that a villager buys from the player will usually be displayed in their house the next day.

Flea Markets are usually held on Saturdays, but if the player is ahead of a scheduled flea market due to time traveling, and then travels back in time, the Flea Market will be set to the next day (like many other events).
When the player is buying from the neighbors they can either take the price offered or leave it. If a villager is buying from the player, however, they can haggle by saying the price is too high, in which case the player has to lower it for them to buy the item.
A villager will buy a maximum of three items from the player's house. However, if the player goes into a different room without leaving the house, then returns to where the villager is, it resets so that the villager may buy another three items. This can be repeated at the player's discretion. The highest acceptable price the villager will pay is a little over twice the selling price to Tom Nook, meaning furniture will sell for half the buying cost. Fish and bugs will sell for twice the regular price as well, so if the player stocks up on high priced fish/bugs and sells them during the Flea Market, they can make double the amount of Bells as selling to Tom Nook.

When the player is buying from villagers, the player can either take the given price, or leave it. If one of them is buying from the player however, they will haggle by saying the price is too high, and the player will have to lower it for them to buy it.
A villager will buy a max of three items from the player's house. However, if the player goes into a different room without leaving the house, then go back to where the villager is, it resets it so that the villager will buy another three items. This can be repeated indefinitely. The maximum acceptable price they will pay is a little over twice the selling price to Tom Nook, which means for furniture, they will sell for half the buying cost. If the player has bugs in their house, the same rule applies, twice the selling price. So if the player stocks up on high priced fish/insects before or during a flea market day, the player can make double amount of Bells by placing them in their home and coaxing the villagers towards the creature.
If the player turns off the lights, the villagers will not know they are home, so the player can move around furniture to prepare, as villagers will not visit while the lights are off.

Flea Market is not present in New Leaf. It is because Re-Tail acts like a Flea Market as villagers and the player can place items where anyone can buy them, including the villagers themselves.Flea Market Day is a day when you set up your house with all items you don't want very much. Villagers come into your house and will look around and if they stare at something, they will most likely ask for the price. If the price you put in is unreasonable then they will ask for you to lower it. If you try to leave they will too and somebody else will come when you go back inside.
The flea market happens every first Saturday on every month except for January and August. You will get a advance notice of when the flea market is coming because it will be posted on the bulletin board within a week before the event. The flea market lasts all day, starting at 6:00am and ending at 12:00am.
The flea market will occur every month except for December and August. It will occur every third Saturday for the months that there is a flea market. Again, you will recieve a notice on the bulletin board with a week's notice. It will start at 6:00am and end at 12:00am, making for a full day to shop.

If you enter your house and wait a little bit, a villager will randomly pop in to your house. As soon as they greet you, they will start walking around your house looking for anything that might catch their eye. If they are interested in am item, they will stop in front of it and stay there staring at it. You need to talk to them. They will say that they like your item and ask how much it is. At this point, you may either enter an offer or refuse to sell it. If you enter an offer too high, the villager will be outraged and ask for a lower price. You may lower it until you find a good deal or you can decide to keep it if you feel you are getting ripped off.
If you want to buy some new things at a great price, then search for villager's that have their house lights on. Enter their home, and they will greet you with the name of their store. You can then go around and choose items that you would like to buy. Villagers will tell you a price that they would like from the item that you chose. You either take it, or you don't. The villagers will not haggle with you. You can only buy a certain number of items from your neighbors or else their house will be totally empty!
Sometimes, a villager will refuse to let you buy one of their items. This is because it is very near and dear to their heart, and losing it would be very hard for them. Some of those items that villagers can not part with have had old memories and great fun with them. No matter how many times you try to buy the item, they will not give in. This usually happens with the rarer and more expensive items.
