Anime Cells At Work Episode 2

Anime Cells At Work Episode 2

I found myself wondering, after watching the first episode for this show, would Cells at Work! primarily be a monster of the week type of show. Throwing situations at the two main characters and having them react with little actual development outside of that. This second episode seems to confirm that assumption, but it’s just so damn cute!

“Scrape Wound” begins with our main Red Blood Cell girl once again utterly lost and unable to perform her vital function as a personification of blood. During this minor issue, we are treated to an extended sequence of the adorable little children that represent the platelets hauling some heavy equipment down a small stairway.

Mid

That it until Bill Murray manages to injure himself, specifically he grazes himself at the exact point our main character just so happens to currently occupy. The abrasion is represented as cataclysmic destruction in the city and a vast hole appearing in the ground, one that sucks the blood cells towards it.

Episodes 7 8

Our recognisable faces manage to survive thanks to the incredibly unlikely reappearance of the Jojo White Blood cell, who even said the chances of them running into one another again were astronomical at the end of the previous episode. Then bacteria invade through the wound. Rinse and repeat the events of the previous episode.

The major difference being the Platelets are the ones to save they day as they seal the wound to prevent the germs from getting anymore backup. The episode ends with thousands of red and white blood cells being jammed into the whole to from a scab.

In what is a pretty underwhelming season for original anime, I am getting a lot of enjoyment out of Cells at Work! despite my sarcastic comments. The designs of the characters, specifically the germs are great. They look weirdly alien, which they technically are given the giant metaphor that is this show. Plus, the writers do seem to have done their research in creating analogies between the this shows premise and the functions of the human body.

Made In Abrasion

It’s light and fluffy, and yet contains surprising amount of blood, dismemberment and cataclysmic destruction. It also pushes the kinda-romance between the two main characters again, but the fact that JoPhil seems to be having none of it leads me to believe that it’s going to be a point of comedy rather than anything substantial.

This specific episode focuses on the platelets, while they were already established in the first episode, I’m not going to complain about them getting more focus here because they’re weaponised cute. I am getting the impression that there isn’t going to be a through line, nor continued story in this show, and the more I come to terms with that, the more I can just enjoy the visuals and “edutertainment” approach to this show.

After watching both episodes 3 and 4, I’ve decided not to continue reviewing Cells at Work! While I am still enjoying the show, it’s light and fluffy enough that I can’t find enough to say about it week to week without majorly repeating myself. Rest assured, I will speak about the show again, but it’ll probably have to wait until the season is over. When our directionally-challenged Red Blood Cell (RBC) gets lost once again, a more experienced RBC volunteers to help her find her way. Suddenly, they hear the familiar sound of the Platelets, quite possibly the cutest incarnation of the series so far.

After overcoming the harrowing challenge of a set of stairs, the platelets take on the task of washing and preparing fibrin - a tool used for when they have to cover or repair damage to the skin.

Cells

RBC and her guide leave them to their work, discussing the fact that things seem so peaceful in this town near the surface of the skin. Of course, just as they're reflecting on the quiet day, a massive explosion rocks the city! Blood cells go flying, sucked into the vast crater now formed in the middle of the city.

White Blood Cell rushes to the rescue of RBC just as she's about to get sucked through the Abrasion, and from then on it's a frantic battle against an onslaught of germs as they make their way through the new vulnerability in the skin!

Leading the charge is a particularly nasty Staph-based germ. Having heard rumors about the pneumonia bug that was squashed in the last episode (do germs get together and gossip at bars or something?) she claims to have done all the necessary research to make their invasion as smooth as possible. Unfortunately for them, they failed to account for something very important: the platelets!

With the abrasion clotted, and no new germs invading, the white blood cells quickly finish off the straggling infections. As everyone breathes a sigh of relief, the platelets then get to work gathering up blood cells to cover the massive clot!

On the one hand, it's thoroughly entertaining and (from what I've seen/read) accurate to the point of being educational. Not only that, the battles are among some of the more intense that we've seen so far in the Summer series. Who knew that blood cells had so much blood in them?At the same time, there's no real over-arching plot to connect the characters to one another as of yet. Sure, it seems as though RBC has a crush on the White Blood Cell, but other than that it's just one educational opportunity after another, punctured (haha) with dramatically violent combat. With that said, everything else is pretty solid. Striking character designs, great animation quality, well-delivered humor that occasionally causes you to grin ear to ear...an all around well made series aside from the fact that it sometimes feels thin from a narrative standpoint. The more I think about it, the more I feel that the disjointed, episodic nature would do better in a shorter format: 2-5 minute episodes seem like they could really deliver solid entertainment more reliably. Still, we've only got a couple episodes behind us so far. Maybe they can tie things together and create a broader, more compelling plot.Until then, it's definitely worth a watch if for no other reason than to press your emotional reset button. We'll be keeping our eyes on this one!Scrape Wound (すり傷 , Surikizu ? ) is the second episode of the Cells at Work! anime. It's based on the fourth chapter of the manga, which has the same title.

Cells At Work! Season 2

An interruption in the vessel by a skin abrasion causes trouble for the red blood cells. U-1146 and the other white blood cells are forced to deal with the germs alone

AE3803 is tasked with delivering nutrients but has gotten lost. AA5100 surprises her and tells her that she is heading in the same direction as her and offers to show her the way to her destination. As they are about to walk, they hear the Platelet Division down below. They are carrying a large package and carefully descend down the stairs.

Platelet is carrying some coagulation factors when one of them falls over, which AE3803 picks up and returns to her bag. She then decides to have the division wash the fibrin at the canal. As AE3803 and AA5100 are delivering nutrients, some rumbling causes the cells to trip. AE3803 asks AA5100 what just happened, and she is in the process of explaining what happens when another rumble causes the cells to fall down a bit. An explosion is seen in the distance, which has left a gaping hole in the middle of the city.

AE3803 gets back on her feet just as she and the other blood cells start getting sucked into the hole. However, she is saved by U-1146, who grabs her in the nick of time. The two recognize each other from a previous incident and he brings her back to safety. AE3803 asks him what is going on, and he explains it to her as he grabs another blood cell; it is an abrasion. If they fall through the abrasion, they have no chance of returning to their own world. He continues to explain that it will be patched and that they have to deal with some germs. Peering over the wall, he notices a germ is about to attack and pushes AE3803 and AA5100 down, saving them from a fatal strike.

A group of germs have appeared, with their leader being the Staphylococcus Aureus. Aureus orders the germs to attack; one tries to attack but is wounded by U-1146. He tells the cells to run; while AE3803 is concerned for his safety, they cannot assist him. They inform the other red blood cells of the threat, and as AA5100 is informing them, two germs burst in; Streptococcus Pyogenes and Pseudomonas Aeruginosa, who demand the red blood cells to give up their nutrients. The red blood cells try to flee but are blocked by a venous valve. Pyogenes grabs a red blood cell and attempts to make an example of her if their demands are not met. Pseudomonas is cut down by a Neutrophil, while another two kill Pyogenes. The three
